Coded Trials
Coded trial information is generated to evaluate different varieties under a wide range of conditions through out the growing region. The annual report combines all the data to come up with an overall summary of all varieties.

The coded trial system is designed to provide an overview of variety performance however, significant interactions exist so the final report has limitations in predicting what can happen on local areas that deal with different diseases, insects, or fertility issues. The system also only looks at the performance of one seed lot of what is sold or submitted by the company

Blue Book Data
Blue book data is a compilation of data that represents all fields planted by variety. This is an overview of the root yield, sugar and quality of the variety in the areas it was planted. The agriculturalists determine which fields will be reported in the final analysis and some “non-representative” fields are removed and not included in the final report. The value to this is it provides an actual representation of all seed lots and seed sizes planted to various varieties throughout the growing region.
 

Proprietary Trials
SESVanderHave proprietary trials, disease nurseries and field strip trials are planted and harvested each year to evaluate and screen potential varieties. Ratings are given for several agronomic characteristics including vigor, emergence, final stand, several different disease ratings, management practices, yield and quality and much more. The information learned is used to educate our growers in selecting the right variety for their fields and managing them for the best results.
